Coco - Wyanet, IL

This snuggle bug is Coco.  Coco is an approximately 10 yr old, 11 lb, neutered male Chihuahua cross.

Coco was found as a stray by a large Northern Illinois Animal control. We pulled him into our rescue and safety and had him fully evaluated by our veterinarian. He is good with most other dogs, cats, and liked my kids but they are very dog savvy after having over 800 in their short lives in our home.

Coco is a silly older gent with a stage 4 heart murmur. He is on medication and doing great, but due to his age and health status has not had any interest and has been in our rescue for 14 months now. We feel he would love to be in a forever hospice home.  Lets find Coco his forever home where he can nap under blankets as much as he wants!!

For more information you can email bishopssmalldogrescue@hotmail.com or call 815-699-4010.

Soulman - Crete, IL

This sweet boy is Soul Man.  Soul Man is an 8 yr old, 70 lb neutered male Bully mix.

Soul Man truly is a sweet old soul who just wants someone to hang out with. He loves a neck or belly rub, getting brushed, and getting his head scratched. He is very gentle and sweet, but needs time to warm up to strangers. He will let out a low growl when someone comes in the house, but if ignored he will come around once he’s confirmed everybody is ok.

He is house trained, and will let you know when he needs to go outside. He knows sit, down and will give paw when he's in the mood or if the treat is worth his while…:-) Soul man is very afraid of thunderstorms. He will visibly shake, but will be ok if he is near his human, especially if you wrap him in his favorite blankie and hold him tight. He has low to medium energy, likes to go for short walks, and only pulls when there is something he really wants to see. He is incredibly loyal to his human, and is just the sweetest boy in the world. Soul Man is pretty low maintenance—as long as you love him.

Soul Man would do best in a home where he's the only dog with no kids - he would be PERFECT for a physically-capable senior human who lives alone and wants companionship and to feel a little safe!!  He is a wonderful companion!!  If you are interested in finding out more about Soul Man, please fill out an  adoption application at:  https://www.dogsaredeservingrescue.com/adoptable-dogs/adoption-application/.  The website for more information is www.dogsaredservingrescue.com

Carrera - Downers Grove, IL

This very special girl is Carrera.  She is a younger girl but her exact age is unknown. Carrera is a super happy dog, gives greetings like she hasn't seen you in ages and does the funniest happy dance with her front legs when she is excited!!

Carrera was found on the streets of Chicago by the Chicago PD. She was taken to Chicago Animal Control where it was discovered that she is paralyzed from the waist down. This was not a fresh injury. She had been living with it for some time according to the lack of wounds or broken bones. Animal Control had very limited time to find rescue or Carrera would be put down and she has such utter zest for life, no one wanted to see that happen.

Carrera has been to physical therapy, she has been fitted for a cart, but her current foster home is not suited for a cart nor are they home enough to really work on building Carrera's muscles. Carrera wears a diaper as she is incontinent although she will do her business outside if she is taken out frequently enough.

More than anything, Carrera needs open space in the house to practice with her cart and ideally few if any steps going into the house, although she is so strong in the front that if you hold up her back end, she literally bounds up the six steep steps of her foster home.

She also craves human interaction and wants to be with people as much as possible. She would sit on the couch with you all day if that's what you want to do!!  She is dog reactive and currently lives with a cat.

She already has a cart fitted especially for her that is hers forever. If we don't find placement for Carrera soon, we don't know where to turn. She has come so far and wants desperately to be a part of the big wide world.

Carrera is available for adoption within a 50 mile radius of Chicago.  For more information, please contact Animal Care Manager Sarah Stromberg, West Suburban Humane Society via email: animalcare@wshs-dg.org or call 630-960-9600 x23.
